JAMB Cut Off Mark for Geology

If Geology is the course you want to study, your JAMB score is one of the first things you should pay attention to. Before you can be considered for admission, you need to meet the minimum score required for university admission.

However, the general JAMB cut-off mark is not necessarily the final score you should target. Universities can set higher minimum scores for their programmes, and this is something candidates should keep in mind when preparing for UTME.

JAMB Cut-Off Mark for Geology

For the 2026/2027 admission exercise, JAMB has set the minimum admissible score for universities at 150. This means that candidates who want to apply to study Geology at a university must score 150 or above in the UTME to be eligible for admission consideration.

However, candidates should not make 150 their target. Universities are allowed to adopt higher minimum scores for their programmes, so the score required by your preferred university may be higher than the JAMB benchmark.

Our advice is that candidates should aim for 200 or above in JAMB. A higher score can put you in a better position when competing for admission, especially if your chosen university sets a higher benchmark for Geology.

JAMB Subject Combination for Geology

Candidates who want to study Geology should make sure they select the correct subjects when registering for JAMB. Use of English is compulsory, so it must be included in the combination. The JAMB subject combination for Geology is:-

Physics
Chemistry
Any one of Mathematics, Biology or Geography

O’Level Requirements for Geology

Candidates seeking admission to study Geology are expected to have five (5) O’Level credit passes in relevant subjects. The required credits should include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one other relevant science subject.

Candidates can use WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results. The number of sittings accepted may depend on the university, so candidates should confirm this with their preferred institution before applying.

Direct Entry Requirements for Geology

Candidates who want to gain admission into Geology through Direct Entry must also meet the requirements set by their chosen university.

Generally, candidates may be considered with relevant A-Level passes in science subjects or qualifications such as ND/HND in a related field, depending on the institution.

Since Direct Entry requirements can differ between universities, candidates should check the requirements of their preferred school before submitting an application.
